The third edition of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) in Australia will see Indian Women cricket’s power house performer Veda Krishnamurthy display her skills for Hobart Hurricanes.

Last year, Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana played in the WBBL and this year, Veda will become part of one of the most exciting women’s cricket tournament in the world. Hobart Hurricanes featured the likes of Amy Satterthwaite (New Zealand), Heather Knight (England) and Hayley Matthews (Windies) last year and so far, Veda’s signing is the only announcement the team has made this year.

Veda Krishnamurthy spoke to Wisden India and said, “Knowing that you’re representing India there, I want to do well. Harry (Harmanpreet) has already started a trend, I want to do my bit.“I just want to go there and enjoy myself.I haven’t thought about what I’m looking forward to, since it’s the first time I’m with a franchise … I had a word with the coach as well. She has a fair idea of what to do with me.”  

Apart from Veda, the clubs are also looking for Deepti Sharma as a potential addition to the league and it is more than likely that Harmanpreet Kaur will also be retained by her franchisee, Sydney Thunder.

Veda put the spotlight on her during the  ICC Women’s World Cup 2017, when she hit a 45 ball 70 against New Zealand in a must win game. “Australian conditions are quite similar to Indian pitches these days,” she said. “The ball comes onto the bat. I don’t know if it suits me, but yes, it puts you in a comfort zone and makes you feel good as a batter.”

Veda also said, “I’ve always played in situations and teams that are similar to me. But now I’ll be going out of my comfort zone. It’ll help me grow as a player. Since we have the WT20 coming up, there will be situations I’ve gone through there that I can talk about with my team.”

India Women will travel to South Africa for three One-Day Internationals and five T20Is starting on February 5.
