India’s tour of Bangladesh likely to happen finally, with January 2027 as a possible window- Report

India had last toured Bangladesh in December 2022.

Bangladesh lasted hosted India in December 2022 | GettyIndia’s tour of Bangladesh, which has been postponed for two times already, is likely to be back on cards, with January 2027 emerging as a possible window for the six-match white-ball assignment.

India's tour was originally pushed back in July of last year, and Bangladesh's choice to skip its T20 World Cup matches in India this year put further strain on ties between the BCCI and BCB.

As per India Today, although neither the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) nor the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has formally confirmed the news, sources say talks between the two boards are moving in a positive direction, and the tour may well go ahead.

The proposed series would consist of three ODIs and three T20Is. Still, securing a suitable window may be difficult, since Zimbabwe is set to visit India for a three-match ODI series from January 3 to 9, after which comes the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, due to start on January 21.

However, the atmosphere around bilateral cricketing ties could shift following the political transition in Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party's win in this year's general elections has changed the country's leadership, sparking hopes that relations between the two cricket boards might be reset.

The Bangladesh board has also seen a major leadership change, as former opener Tamim Iqbal takes over the presidency from former captain Aminul Islam. Sources say Tamim is eager to rebuild ties with the BCCI, not only through bilateral cricket but also at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and International Cricket Council (ICC) levels.

A leading Bangladeshi daily, Prothom Alo, quoted BCB president Tamim Iqbal as expressing optimism about India's visit, suggesting that talks between the two boards were heading in the right direction.

Should India's tour of Bangladesh proceed, the immediate question becomes what will happen to the already scheduled ODI series against Zimbabwe. According to sources, the three-match assignment may be rescheduled to make room for the Bangladesh tour, though no official decision has been announced yet.

India's buildup for the Australia series will also need to be taken into account in the revised schedule, as the team is expected to start its Test preparations before the January 21 assignment.

India last visited Bangladesh in December 2022, playing two Tests and 3 ODIs.
