After much speculation concerning the spin bowling coach of Bangladesh cricket team, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have now confirmed the appointment of former Australian leg spinner Stuart MacGill. The 44 Tests veteran MacGill played most of his career as second fiddle to Shane Warne, therefore, the 46-year-old never really came into the limelight.
The BCB president Nazmul Hasan confirmed MacGill's appointment for a period of three months. The Bangladesh Cricket Board is now waiting for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Cricket Australia (CA) so that they can make the use of the services of MacGill ahead of the 2 Tests against Australia.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, BCB chairman Akram Khan said, "We have confirmed MacGill. We are waiting for him to get his NOC from CA."
"Even if we don't get him before the series against Australia we are sure we will have him in our dressing as soon as he obtains the required documents to work here." he further added.
Earlier, Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha also said that getting MacGill on board would definitely help them in fetching some inside knowledge.
"MacGill is here for three months to see, and if he is happy and the players are benefiting, it will be long-term," Hathurusingha said.
"We didn't have a spin bowling coach since (Ruwan) Kalpage left us. We need that help, as that's a specialised area," he added.
Australia are scheduled to arrive on August 18 for their first Test series in Bangladesh since 2006. The first Test is planned to take place at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium Dhaka from August 27 while the second Test will be played in Chittagong from September 4.
