Chinmay Suthar and BB Nimbalkar, the only two Indians to score 400 in FC cricket | X/ GettyChinmay Sutar, a Mizoram batter, created history on October 19, 2026, in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2026/27 season. He broke Prithvi Shaw’s record for the second-highest individual score in Ranji Trophy history as he smashed 400* against Nagaland at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovima.

Nagaland captain Hokaito Zhimomi won the toss and chose to bowl first against Mizoram. Saurav Kumar and Neizekho Rupreo gave them a good start with three easy wickets. But Chinmay Sutar was the one Nagaland couldn’t dislodge.

Sutar held one end up and got support from Manender Singh (27) and keeper Jehu Anderson (69), with whom he added 168 runs for the fifth wicket. Mizoram kept losing wickets at the other end, but Sutar soldiered on and eventually became only the second Indian batter to score 400 in Ranji Trophy and First-Class cricket.

He made 400* in 517 balls with 46 fours and 7 sixes, as Mizoram declared their first innings on 581/9. Anil Gupta picked 3/143, while Rupreo and Saurav picked two wickets each for Nagaland.

During his incredible knock, Sutar also went past Prithvi Shaw in the all-time list and is now second in the standings for the highest scores in Ranji Trophy history. Shaw scored 379 off 383 balls against Assam back in 2023.
