The recent edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL 2026) has courted controversy after Vansh Bedi, who played for the Central Delhi Kings, reported a "fixing approach" by a cricketer from a neighboring state.
DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma stated that the young keeper-batter flagged the wrongful approach to the Anti-Corruption Wing, which was later documented as well.
"Vansh Bedi promptly reported a corrupt approach to the Anti-Corruption Wing from a player from Uttar Pradesh, who was also playing in a T20 league in the state. We have attached SLOs with every team this year, and all our arrangements have been watertight," said DDCA Secretary Ashok Sharma, as per the Times of India.
The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has now written to the BCCI and has asked for advice on the situation. They have also sought help on how to approach fixing claims stemming from a sting operation conducted by Tehelka.
Recently, news outlet Tehelka conducted an undercover operation into an alleged cricket-fixing network, and former domestic cricketer Rachit Bhatia has become a central figure in the same. Reportedly, Bhatia acted as a middleman between a fake bookie and a Central Delhi Kings player, offering to share playing XI information ahead of official announcements in return for payment.
As per the Tehelka report, Bhatia had promised to provide the playing eleven of all ten matches played by the Central Delhi Kings in the DPL. Such an act has been described by the Tehelka report as "line-up leaks," which is a form of match-fixing where information about the team members is provided to the betting agencies before its official announcement.
Bhatia told the Tehelka reporter that he was involved in match-fixing during the 2018-19 Mushtaq Ali Trophy, claiming that he had been bribed with 1.6 million rupees by some bookies in return for him bowling two deliberate wides. Bhatia also mentioned that he had bribed someone in order to be a part of the Ranji Trophy team in the 2018-19 season.
Bhatia also told the operative that he was working as a national selector and coach, identifying players from Delhi schools for national school cricket tournaments. Rachit Bhatia played 6 games in Indian domestic cricket for Nagaland.
"We have written to the BCCI and will await their guidance," added the DDCA secretary.
Insiders in the Delhi cricket corridors feel there is more than meets the eye, but DDCA officials will act after receiving guidance from the Indian cricket board.
