The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly mulling organizing a match between India and a Rest of the World XI to mark the celebration of its 100th anniversary.

Following the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Mumbai on Friday (September 18), the BCCI stated in a release that General Body has formally initiated the process for its historic centenary celebrations in 2028.

The grand celebrations are scheduled to commence in December 2027 and will run throughout 2028, honoring the rich legacy, evolution, and global impact of the board since its inception.

According to a report in The New Indian Express, the board is set to establish a dedicated committee tasked with orchestrating the year-long celebrations.

As a marquee highlight of the centenary calendar, the BCCI is planning to host a spectacular exhibition match featuring the Indian team against a star-studded Rest of the World XI. This highly anticipated fixture aims to bring together the world's finest cricketing talent to celebrate India's enduring contribution to the global game.

While the exhibition fixture against a world-class lineup is a core suggestion, its format, exact dates, and squads remain at an early, exploratory stage.

India have never played an official international cricket match against the World XI. However, several Indian players have represented the World XI or played in similar exhibition formats.

During the World Cricket Tsunami Appeal match in January 2005, Indian icons like Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, and Anil Kumble featured for the Asia XI against the ICC World XI.

In the 2005 ICC Super Series Super Test against Australia, Dravid, Sehwag, and Sachin Tendulkar were selected to play for the ICC World XI.
