Derbyshire Police have closed their investigation into England fast bowler Brydon Carse over an alleged nightclub incident, meaning he will face no criminal charges.

Carse was briefly handcuffed and questioned outside a nightclub in Derby in the early hours of August 23. He was initially arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly before being de-arrested. Subsequent assault allegations were investigated and officially dropped with no further action.

"An investigation into reports of an assault in Derby city centre has been closed," Derbyshire Police said in a statement released on Friday (September 18).

"Officers attended Molly Malones in The Wardwick, Derby, in the early hours of Sunday, 23 August. A man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and was then de-arrested after his details were taken by officers," the Police added.

However, Brydon Carse remains under a separate internal review by the Cricket Regulator. The incident had already cost Carse his place in England's squad for the second and third Tests against Pakistan at Lord’s and Edgbaston, respectively.

Ahead of the Lord’s Test, England captain Joe Root had expressed immense frustration, stating he is "really hacked off" and "really disappointed" with the nightclub row involving Carse.

Despite being available for selection, Carse was left out of the England white-ball squad currently facing Sri Lanka, with the ECB insisting that he must complete a proper reset before being considered for selection again.

England white-ball coach Brendon McCullum also said earlier this week that Carse needs to make good decisions off the field to be the best version of himself, using the opportunity to "get his house in order" before pushing for national selection again.
