Legendary batter Rahul Dravid’s son Anvay Dravid and Yashbardhan Chauhan stole the limelight as India Under-19 registered a seven-run win over Australia Under-19 in a rain-curtailed first Youth ODI in Rajkot on Friday (September 18).

While Chauhan slammed a half-century, Dravid Jr produced a blistering late assault to propel India U-19 to 182/6.

The match, which was reduced to a 20-over per side contest after rain interrupted play at the Niranjan Shah Stadium, also witnessed the U-19 debut of former India opener Virender Sehwag's son Aaryavir, who scored 28 of 26 balls with five fours.

In reply, Australia U-19 were restricted at 175/7 after looking good to chase down India's target at one stage of their innings, with skipper Jack Czosnek leading the charge with a 27-ball 55.

Openers Neel Patel (45 of 31 balls) and Hayden Barbulovic (40 off 24) gave the visitors a fine start before Czosnek took charge of their innings. However, Czosnek's departure in the 19th over dashed Australia’s hopes of securing a win.

Chauhan (2/28 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for India U-19, capping a fine all-round performance on the day.

Earlier, Chauhan returned with 54 off 34 balls while Anvay hammered 38 off just 18 balls, a knock that proved to be the difference in the end.

Anvay, batting at No. 6, gave much needed impetus to the India U-19 innings, smashing two fours and three sixes. His knock came at a crucial juncture for the hosts after they had slipped to 88/4 in the 12th over.

Chauhan was joined by Anvay after the fall of fourth wicket fell and the duo added 69 runs to resurrect India's innings and set up a strong finish.

Sehwag watched the action live from the stands in Rajkot as his son earned his first official junior international cap. Dravid’s son had already represented India U-19 in the Youth ODI series in Sri Lanka earlier this year.
