The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly confiscated mobile phones of several national cricketers during the ongoing Test series in England.

According to 365 News, the board is carrying out an ‘investigation’, though it’s not clear into what. While cricket boards and the International Cricket Council (ICC) hold the power to seize electronic devices, such extreme measures are exclusively reserved for active anti-corruption or match-fixing investigations.

However, in this specific instance, the report didn’t mention any corruption accusations, betting violations, or match-fixing inquiries.

The board has kept the exact reasons behind this investigation entirely under wraps, leading to intense speculation regarding internal disciplinary matters or media leaks.

Players' phones will reportedly remain in the PCB's custody until the conclusion of the third Test at Edgbaston.

This aggressive move follows a total team overhaul. After heavy defeats in the first two Tests, the PCB sacked head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed, bowling coach Umar Gul and dropped seven players—including Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Ali Agha and Imam-ul-Haq—sending them home early.

Since the PCB refused to issue a formal public statement, rumors have run wild. Some outlets speculate that the board is investigating if certain player injuries were faked or searching for sources leaking sensitive dressing-room information to the press.

Under the ICC Anti-Corruption Code, all players and staff must routinely surrender their phones when entering the Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA) on game days to stop external communication. The devices are returned immediately after the day's play concludes.

Seizing personal electronics and holding them overnight in a hotel or team camp mid-series is an unprecedented internal escalation by the PCB. It implies a total breakdown of trust between the management and the playing squad.
