Legendary South African batter AB de Villiers has backed Dewald Brevis to win the team lots of cricket games, but only if coaches stop fooling around with him and give him a set spot to bat. He advised supporters to be more patient with the young player and expressed high appreciation for the daring batter.

De Villiers shared his experience of working with Brevis and pointed out that a certain section of fans feel the 23-year-old may be past his peak. Brevis was still quite young and had a bright career ahead of him, according to De Villiers.

According to AB de Villiers, he was at his peak when he was 30. He implied that Brevis was still a long way from that age and that, with more experience, he would be a far better version of himself.

"I always say Dewald Brevis. I work a little bit with him in my off time. He's still young, guys. I think a lot of people look at him like he's almost past his best. He's still in his early 20s. There’s a lot of cricket left for that young man.

I told him, Imagine you're 30 years old, between 28 and 32; that's when I peaked. He's still a long way off that. You just become more experienced, and you start understanding your game better, and he's nowhere near that yet, and people are already sort of going, 'We're getting a little bit tired of him. He's inconsistent. 'I was incredibly inconsistent when I was younger. So, I always say Dewald Brevis because I'm waiting for that. I know what's coming," De Villiers said on his YouTube channel.

Brevis is currently playing for South Africa in the T20I tri-series against Zimbabwe and Namibia. He made a 50-ball 75 in South Africa’s shocking defeat to Namibia. He continued his brilliant form, scoring 75 runs in 32 balls, helping the Proteas defeat Zimbabwe.

AB de Villiers further stated that Dewald Brevis needed backing from his coaches, who have been shunting him up and down the batting order. He advised on which position is the best for Brevis to bat in all three formats to get the maximum from him.

"I hope that the coaches stop fooling him around. Bat him in the top order; stop putting him at five, and then he opens, then he bats at six, then he opens again, and then he bats at three. In my opinion, he needs to bat No. 3 in T20s, three in ODIs, and four in Test match cricket. Pick him, put him there, keep him there. He's going to win you a lot of cricket games,” de Villier said.

South Africa will face Zimbabwe again in the tri-series on Tuesday, September 1, at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek.
