With an eye on India's next Test trip to New Zealand, the BCCI is in negotiations with a few English counties about securing a short-term contract for young bowler Auqib Nabi during the County Championship's final rounds.

Gurnoor Brar and Nabi, who took 60 wickets in the previous Ranji season, were not included in the starting lineup for the two recent Test matches against Sri Lanka.

Gurnoor Brar will join the North Zone team for the semi-final match versus South Zone beginning on August 30 at the Center of Excellence, while Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna have earned much-needed vacations due to workload.

"It was a decision taken by the Indian team think-tank (team management and selection committee) that Gurnoor will be playing the Duleep Trophy. Already Arshdeep (Singh) and Anshul (Kamboj) are in the playing XI, and Gurnoor will replace Sunil Kumar. So, the BCCI is looking for at least two to three red-ball games for Auqib in England, which will be handy," a BCCI source told PTI.

Surrey is reportedly searching for a swing bowler, and there have been some discussions about Nabi playing a few games for the prestigious county club in London. Alec Stewart, the head coach of Surrey and a former captain of England, is reportedly in talks with appropriate BCCI officials.

"While conditions are slightly different in New Zealand, Auqib certainly will be in the scheme of things. So, a couple of games will not be bad for him while Gurnoor plays the Duleep Trophy. The BCCI is trying to get his UK visa, and upon approval, he might leave for the UK," the source added.

Mana Suthar had played two games for Warwickshire, while Kuldeep Yadav is back in UK for Yorkshire's red-ball games. R. Sai Kishore is also playing for Gloucestershire.
