Bangladesh's state minister for youth and sports, Aminul Haque, stated on Monday that they hope the impasse over India's planned September tour of Bangladesh is quickly resolved. Because of the political tension between the two nations, the Bangladesh Cricket Board is holding out hope for the series' future.
Since August 5, when ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and a few members of her party were permitted to have a virtual press conference in Delhi, there has been a perception that both nations were not prepared to engage in dialogue.
On the sidelines of a football game in Dhaka on Monday, August 10, Animul begged to differ in an interview with Cricbuzz.
“No, no, no... I don't think so (that our relationship is strained due to that press conference). I think sports mean sports, and through sports a good relationship is created with all our neighboring countries,” Aminul told Cricbuzz.
Aminul claimed to have already discussed the uncertainty surrounding India's planned tour of Bangladesh later this year with the foreign minister.
"It is being worked on at the ministerial level. I have already spoken to the foreign minister today (Monday), and they are also talking to the Indian foreign minister. We want to quickly resolve the deadlock that was created around the World Cup. Inshallah, we are hopeful that it will be resolved very soon.
We strongly want to maintain the cordiality and friendly relationship between Bangladesh and India, including the cricket series between the two countries. We hope that this matter will be resolved very soon,” he added.
BCB would have been relieved when Dinesh Trivedi, the Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh, met with Tareque Rahman, the prime minister of Bangladesh.
“The Indian High Commissioner met the Honorable Prime Minister. I have also spoken to the Foreign Minister and the Minister of State. They are very hopeful that the tension that arose over the last World Cup will be resolved soon. There have already been talks between the Foreign Ministries of Bangladesh and India. We are hopeful that, inshallah, this problem will be resolved,” he concluded.
