Vaibhav got into a physical altercation with a SL A player | XVaibhav Sooryavanshi is likely to make his India debut in the upcoming Ireland and England T20Is; however, former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar feels that the youngster is now well-equipped to deal with sledging at the top level.

This comes after Sooryavanshi made headlines for his heated physical altercation with Vishen Halambage during the India A vs Sri Lanka A game in the recent one-day tri-series in Dambulla, Sri Lanka.

Before teammates intervened to defuse the tension, the two players shoved each other. Although no formal announcement has been made yet, reports have claimed that the players involved would be punished for their roles in the unpleasant episode.

However, the 15-year-old answered stylishly. He hit 94 off 29 balls against the same opposition in the final and was named Player of the Match as India A won the championship.

Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar believes the incident involving the Sri Lankan player will serve as a useful lesson for Sooryavanshi, helping him deal with sledging more effectively in the future.

I think Vaibhav has learnt his lesson, the sledging bit. He’ll know what to do. So that’s not a problem. He had first-hand experience in Sri Lanka, and he’ll handle that pretty well, because he seems a very aware, mature guy," Manjrekar was quoted as saying by Mid-Day.

Manjrekar stated that he had a better grasp of Sooryavanshi's white-ball credentials during the India A Tri-Series at Dambulla, which was played in a one-day format.

I’m very excited because I had a greater insight into him as a white-ball batter in the India ‘A’ series. And there is something about him that’s special," he said.

Sooryavanshi pushed his way into India’s T20I team thanks to an excellent outing in IPL 2026 for Rajasthan Royals. He hammered 776 runs at a strike rate of 237 and hit a record 72 sixes as well in the season. He became the youngest-ever winner of the Orange Cap in IPL tournament history.
