
India A defeated Sri Lanka A by 66 runs in the final to clinch the Tri-Nation A series at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Sunday (June 21).
Teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi stole the show, smashing 94 off just 29 balls with 10 fours and 8 sixes to propel India A to a mammoth total of 377/9. In the process, the southpaw slammed the fastest half-century in List A cricket history, reaching the milestone in just 11 balls.
India A skipper Tilak Varma (67 off 90) and Anukul Roy (39 off 15) also made notable contributions with the bat.
In response, Sri Lanka A were bowled out for 311 in 47.1 overs. Pacer Yash Thakur (3-45) and spinner Vipraj Nigam (3-60) were the chief destroyers, halting the resilient middle-order fightback led by Wanuja Sahan (62) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (52).
For his brutal knock in the title clash, the 15-year-old Sooryavanshi deservedly earned the Player-of-the-Match award.
Cricket fraternity hailed Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s clinical batting performance which helped India A seal the Tri-Nation A series, featuring Afghanistan A as the third team.
