The BCCI Men’s Selection Committee on Tuesday (June 16) named Ashok Sharma as a replacement for Yudhvir Singh in the India A squad for the ongoing tri-series in Sri Lanka.
“Yudhvir reported discomfort in his right shoulder while bowling on 13th June and also experienced similar pain earlier during a fielding session on 11th June,” the board said in its official release.
“The BCCI Medical Team, after consultation with a specialist, recommended that Yudhvir undergo a graduated rehabilitation programme under the supervision of the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) to achieve a full recovery from the right rotator cuff injury,” the release added.
Ashok Sharma shot into the limelight by finishing as the joint-highest wicket-taker in the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, claiming an astonishing 22 wickets for Rajasthan. His blistering pace earned him Rs 90 lakh contract with Gujarat Titans (GT) for the 2026 season.
Sharma played six matches in the recently held IPL and sent shockwaves through the tournament by clocking an express delivery at 154.2 kmph, one of the fastest of the tournament.
India A squad has competed in three intense matches in the ongoing tri-series. The Tilak Varma-led side opened the campaign with a nervy 8-run win over Sri Lanka A. In a rain-affected second match against Afghanistan A, India A's massive 349/9 wasn't enough, as they fell short by 4 runs via the DLS method.
In the latest fixture against the hosts, India A fell in a dramatic and heated Super Over after the regulation match ended in a tie. They need to beat Afghanistan A by a handsome margin in the last league match on June 17 to qualify for the final.
