Ugly scenes erupted during the one-day tri-nation A series match between India A and Sri Lanka A at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla on Monday (June 15).
India A’s teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was involved in a heated altercation, shoving Sri Lanka A players and exchanging angry words following a failed run-chase.
The tension boiled over at the end of a dramatic Super-Over, with India A requiring 12 runs off the final two deliveries to secure the win. While Sooryavanshi hit the fifth delivery for a boundary, he then failed to get the bat on the ball, ultimately resulting in the team's defeat.
Frustration from the high-pressure situation and post-match remarks quickly spiraled, culminating in Sooryavanshi pushing a Sri Lankan player as tempers flared.
Here’s the video:
The main 50-over match ended in a tie, with both teams scoring exactly 265 runs. Following a lengthy delay over light issues, Sri Lanka A posted 18 runs in the Super-Over.
India A failed to chase the 19-run Super-Over target, managing only 9 runs. After Sooryavanshi failed to connect with a yorker on the last delivery, the Sri Lankan team erupted into wild celebrations.
The 15-year-old India A opener was apparently provoked by a passing Sri Lankan player, causing him to angrily retaliate and push an opponent before being pulled away by his teammate, Suryansh Shedge.
