India will resume their World Test Championship (WTC) campaign with a two-match Test series in Sri Lanka later this year. The Shubman Gill-led side recently hosted Afghanistan for one-off Test in New Chandigarh, but it was not part of the 2025-27 WTC cycle.

According to a Cricbuzz report, the first Test between India and Sri Lanka is expected to be played at the Galle International Stadium from August 15 to 19.

While the venue for the second Test has not yet been confirmed, it is likely to begin on August 23 at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) Ground in Colombo.

This tour marks India's return to red-ball action in Sri Lanka for the first time in nine years, following their 2017 series sweep.

While a formal itinerary release is still pending, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have reportedly locked in the August 15-27 window for the Test series, with Galle set to stage the opening fixture.

Apart from the two Tests, India could also play three T20Is on the tour of island. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia recently told the media, "There is a request for three matches and we will finalise the schedule soon."

India’s tour of Sri Lanka will begin immediately after the conclusion of the Lanka Premier League, which wraps up on August 9. Hence, staging the T20Is after the Test matches appears more feasible.
