Star Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has stated that he is not losing sleep over a Team India recall, saying that selectors are doing their job, and I am doing mine.
This comes after several calls for his inclusion in India’s side after a terrific IPL 2026, where he picked 28 wickets and helped RCB win their second straight IPL title. He missed the Purple Cap by one wicket, with Kagiso Rabada pipping him with 29 wickets.
Bhuvneshwar had done extremely well in IPL 2025 as well, taking 17 wickets in RCB’s maiden IPL win. However, his last outing for the Indian team came in 2022, just after the T20 World Cup that year, and since then, despite very good performances in domestic cricket and showing great fitness as well, Indian selectors have not looked back at the veteran, opting for young pacers.
“It’s my nature that I don’t want to show that I want to play. I think everyone is doing their job. Selectors are doing their job. I’m doing my job. It’s their responsibility to select. If they think I’m good enough, they will do their job,” Kumar told Indian Express.
Bhuvneshwar said he feels lucky to have represented India and appreciated the distinction that comes with it. He is downplaying the likelihood that he will return to the Men in Blue team.
“I have played; I have done what I had to do. If I hadn’t played, I would have been dying to be asked to play a match. I think it’s a big thing to play for India, I won’t say it’s a small thing, I’m one of the lucky ones that I have played," he said.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar had made his India debut in 2012, taking a wicket on the first ball of his debut over in ODIs, against Pakistan. Since then, he played 21 Tests, 121 ODIs, and 87 T20I matches. He was part of the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy-winning Indian team and was part of the 2019 World Cup team as well.
He has taken 63 Test, 141 ODI, and 90 T20I wickets and was the first Indian bowler to take a five-wicket haul in T20I cricket.
