The Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI selection committee is set to announce India's T20I squads for the upcoming UK tour and the Asian Games 2026.
The UK will tour feature two T20Is against Ireland on June 26 and 28 in Belfast, followed by a trip to England for five T20Is and three ODIs starting July 1. The T20I matches at the continental event will be held between September 17 and October 3 in Japan.
The selectors will also unveil the squad for India A's two multi-day matches in Sri Lanka.
On Friday (June 5), the board shared a media release and informed that its Men's Selection Committee will convene at its headquarters in Mumbai on Saturday (June 6) to pick India's squads for:
a) Two-match T20I series against Ireland
b) Five-match T20I series against England
c) 2026 Asian Games in Japan
d) India A's two multi-day matches in Sri Lanka
The release also confirmed stated that the meeting will be followed by a press conference to be addressed by chief selector Agarkar and BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia.
The press conference will get underway at 1:00 PM IST on the fourth floor of the BCCI headquarters.
Meanwhile, news agency PTI has reported that Shreyas Iyer will officially take over as India's new T20I captain, replacing Suryakumar Yadav, when the BCCI selection committee meets on Saturday.
According to the report, Tilak Varma will be named the new T20I deputy, while teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will earn his maiden senior team call-up.
Despite leading India to T20 World Cup triumph earlier this year, Suryakumar is set to be dropped entirely from the T20I squad due to his extended lean patch with the bat, paving the way for a major transition phase.
Shreyas, who was not a part of the T20 World Cup 2026 squad, is seen as a strong candidate to fill the No. 4 spot in batting line-up. He is being rewarded for being one of the most successful IPL captains, leading KKR to the title win in 2024 besides taking DC and PBKS to the final in 2020 and 2025, respectively.
