Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah has received an apology from Telugu film superstar Ram Charan for mistaking him for a football player. Ram Charan was at a promotional event for his next film, Peddi, when the incident occurred.
When in Bhopal for the song launch ceremony for his forthcoming movie, Charan congratulated Bumrah for "taking football so ahead" during a fast-paced round when discussing other cricket players.
The producers of Peddi hosted an event in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday to present the film's song, "Hellallallo." At the event, which was attended by hundreds of fans as well as the rest of the cast and crew, Ran Charan took part in a Rapid-Fire round with the presenter.
Given that he portrays an Indian athlete in Peddi, he was forced to make remarks about some Indian athletes.
Charan quickly said, "The long and legendary run he had," in response to the host's question about Sachin Tendulkar. When MS Dhoni's name was mentioned, he remarked, "The calm and cool."
Charan paused for a moment before responding, "He's everybody's man," when the host mentioned Rohit Sharma. Virat Kohli was up next, but Charan responded with a clenched fist, "The fire."
“And Jasprit Bumrah?" said the host. Charan took a beat again before responding, “Jasprit Bumrah ji, I’m your biggest fan. I love football, and you’re taking football so far ahead. Love you, sir.”
Realizing his mistake, Ram Charan apologized to Jasprit Bumrah on his X account for thinking he was a football player.
“Uff… I’m genuinely so forgetful with names sometimes. Apologies to @Jaspritbumrah93 Ji for the mix-up—it was a genuine human error in the middle of all the excitement and the crowd (????). I truly respect you, and I am a huge fan of your game. You make every Indian feel proud when you consistently put batsmen on their back foot,” the actor wrote on X.
Bumrah is yet to respond to the actor’s post. Currently, Bumrah is playing for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2026, where his performance has been below par, taking 4 wickets in 13 matches.
