David Warner, a former Australian cricketer, is set to accept the outcome of his "reckless", "foolish" decision to drive his car after having a few glasses of wine. This incident has resulted in a mid-range drink-driving charge, as per his lawyer.

The former Test opener was charged with mid-range alcohol driving after reportedly blowing more than twice the legal limit in a random breath test after stopping short of a roadside test in eastern Sydney on April 5. He did not have to appear at Waverley Local Court on Thursday, when his case was first discussed.

His lawyer, Bobby Hill, informed the court that representations had been made to the police and requested that the matter be adjourned until late June so that the police could consider and reply. His case is scheduled to be heard again on June 24.

"He knows what he did was wrong. He accepts that it was a reckless decision, a foolish decision to get in his car instead of taking an Uber. He had enjoyed three glasses of wine at a friend's apartment before making that decision," Hill was quoted by cricket.com.au.

"It's not a crime to have a glass of wine on the day of the lord's resurrection. In fact, some would consider that completely appropriate. His crime is … choosing a foolish plan A instead of a plan B," he told reporters.

Hill stated that Warner had his last drink 11 minutes before he was pulled over by police, who have been accused of taking 52 minutes to administer the second breathalyzer.

"The cricket star is remorseful, which is why he will ask for leniency but expects to be punished as any other NSW citizen would be," Hill explained.

Warner, who captained the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League, was arrested while returning home for Easter from the subcontinent. But after being charged, he went back to Pakistan to continue his PSL 2026 campaign.
