Indian veteran batsman, Gautam Gambhir has been involved in various charity works and public activities. He was also among those who raised their voices for Indian army. He also answered aptly to people who criticized him on social media.
Currently, Gambhir is out of the team and struggling to make a comeback. The Southpaw's last ODI was against England in 2013. However, he did play for India in a test against England last year. But wasn't picked after that.Â
Away from cricket, the 35-year-old has started a free kitchen for needy people. His charity foundation has started a free community kitchen in West Delhi from Monday.Â
The cricketer himself supervised the operations on the first day in the West Patel Nagar area of Delhi.
In a telling message to his followers, Gambhir said that launching the daily free kitchen is nothing short of winning a cricket World Cup or an IPL. Gambhir has won the IPL twice with Kolkata Knight Riders and was part of the World Cup winning team in 2011 and World T20 winning team in 2007.
In April, Gambhir had pledged to bear the full expenses of the education of the children of 25 CRPF personnel killed in an ambush by Maoists in Chhattisgarh's south Sukma area.
"On Wednesday morning, I picked up newspapers and saw gut-wrenching pictures of the daughters of two CRPF men killed in the latest attacks. One was saluting her martyred father while in the other picture, the howling young woman was being consoled by her relative," Gambhir had written in his column for Hindustan Times.
