The Pakistan team has reportedly lodged a formal complaint with the match referee following the on-field umpire allowing Bangladesh a review in the last over of the recent third ODI that was played in Dhaka on March 15.

The issue centered on on-field umpire Kumar Dharmasena's decision to permit a Bangladesh review on the penultimate ball, which seemingly bypassed standard protocols.

The event occurred while Pakistan was chasing 291 with nine wickets down and needed 12 runs from two deliveries. Rishad Hossain fired one down the leg-side with skipper Shaheen Afridi on strike, which Dharmasena ruled wide. While they cannot immediately review a wide call, Bangladesh requested an LBW, causing the decision to be escalated.

Replays revealed a spike on the UltraEdge when the ball was close to the bat, leading to the wide call being reversed. Despite losing the review, Bangladesh was almost certain to win the game. It should be emphasized that there was no timer shown during the telecast.

To prevent the players from influencing the choice to review, protocols require that a review decision be made before any replays are visible.

However, assuming there was no case for a review because the delivery was initially given a wide, Pakistan has argued that normal protocols were not followed, with the big screen at the stadium showing the ball passing the bat, potentially giving Bangladesh enough information to suggest it made contact.

"The Pakistan team management believes Bangladesh took the review after a replay of the delivery flashed up on the big screen and, as a result, came up (to the referee) after the game and informed (him) about their observation. Pakistan felt Bangladesh was allowed to review outside the maximum 15 seconds (window) within which such a decision must be made," a source confirmed to Cricbuzz.

As per the Cricbuzz report, Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson met match referee Neeyamur Rashid post-match to formally register the complaint.

It is unclear what action the PCB expects from the match referee, but it is understood that they expect at least a public acknowledgement that an error occurred.

Bangladesh lost the review, but the wide verdict was overturned, and the equation became 12 in one ball. Afridi was stumped on the penultimate delivery and slammed his bat over the stumps in rage. Bangladesh won by 11 runs and took the series 2-1.
