Pakistan’s Salman Ali Agha got run out by Bangladesh skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz while trying to pick up the ball at the non-striker's end during the second ODI between two teams in Dhaka on Friday (March 13).

The incident unfolded in the 39th over of Pakistan’s innings when Agha and Mohammad Rizwan were building a partnership. On the fourth delivery, Rizwan nudged the ball to the right of the bowler, where Miraz moved across in his follow-through and managed to stop the ball with his boot.

In the process, Miraz collided with Agha at the non-striker’s end. The ball trickled to a halt near their feet with the Pakistan batter momentarily outside his crease.

Instead of getting back inside, Agha decided to pick up the ball and give it to the bowler. However, Miraz had other plans as he quickly grabbed the ball and hit the stumps at the non-striker’s end. The hosts captain immediately made an appeal and the on-field umpire referred the decision to the TV umpire, who declared Agha out after confirming the ball was still in play and the batter had not grounded his bat behind the crease.

While walking back to the dugout after being dismissed for 64 from 62 balls, Agha was seen throwing his helmet and gloves in anger. He also exchanged words with Miraz after the appeal and continued voicing his frustration on his way to the pavilion.

During the post-match press conference, Salman Ali Agha addressed his controversial dismissal, stating that he would have done things differently.

"I think sportsman spirit has to be there. What he [Mehidy] has done is in the law. I think if he thinks it's right, it's right, but if you ask me my perspective, I would have done differently. I would have gone for sportsman spirit. We haven't done this [type of thing] previously, we would never do that in the future as well," Agha told reporters.

He explained, "Actually, the ball hit on my pad and then my bat. So I thought he can't get me run-out now, because the ball already hit on my pad and my bat. I was just trying to give him the ball back. I was not looking for the run or anything like that, but he already decided [to make the run-out]."

Reflecting on his angry reaction, Agha said: "It was just heat-of-the-moment kind of stuff. If you ask me what would I have done, I would have done things differently. But it was everything, whatever happened after that, it was in the moment."

The situation briefly escalated as Agha got involved in a heated exchange with Bangladesh wicketkeeper Litton Das before Rizwan stepped in to calm matters down. However, he didn't divulge many of the details.

"I can't remember what I was saying and I can't remember what he was saying," Agha said. "I'm sure I wasn't saying nice things, and I'm sure he wasn't saying nice stuff as well. But it was just heat of the moment, so we are fine.

When asked if he had patched things up with Mehidy, Agha said: "I haven't yet, but don't worry, I'll find him."

Pakistan won the second ODI by 128 runs (via DLS method) to level the three-match series 1-1. The third and final ODI will be held in Dhaka on March 15.
