The 25th match of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025-26 season between Chattogram Royals and Noakhali Express, to be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, has been delayed, as both teams did not arrive at the venue for the toss.
This comes after the Cricketers' Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) called for a nationwide boycott on all forms of cricket unless Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director M. Nazmul Islam tenders his resignation.
The cricketers have called for a boycott after Islam, head of the board's financial committee, stated earlier on Wednesday that national cricketers should be made to refund the "crores and crores of taka" that the BCB spends on them.
Nazmul's statements are part of the ongoing fallout from the BCB's decision not to play matches in India during the 2019 T20 World Cup.
Nazmul was questioned about the financial ramifications for Bangladesh if they do not play in the T20 World Cup at all. He reacted by stating that the board would not suffer any losses and that only the cricketers would, adding that there would be no compensation if they missed out.
As a result, the players have called for a boycott unless the director resigns. This resulted in four first-division matches in the Dhaka Cricket League scheduled for the day not starting on Thursday morning.
ESPNCricinfo further reported that the BPL 2025-26 game on Thursday, between Chattogram Royals and Noakhali Express, has been delayed after neither team arrived at the venue for the toss, which was scheduled for 12:30 pm local time. The match was scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. local time.
"We are standing in the middle of the ground. We don't know what's happening. The BPL technical committee can tell you better,” Shipar Ahmed, match referee of the Chattogram-Noakhali match, told ESPNcricinfo.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has issued a show-cause notice to its director, M. Nazmul Islam, while distancing itself from his comments.
"The board has already initiated formal disciplinary proceedings against the board member concerned. A show-cause letter has been issued, and the individual has been instructed to submit a written response within 48 hours. The matter will be dealt with through due process, and appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the proceedings,” the BCB statement read.
