As per reports, Team India is likely to play additional T20Is on their tour of Sri Lanka in August this year as a show of support for the relief and rehabilitation activities following Cyclone Ditwah.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) chairman Shammi Silva confirmed the news, indicating that the additional matches will be added to India's tour of the island nation later this year as part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle.
The additional fixtures are expected to help raise finances and focus public attention on rebuilding efforts in cyclone-affected areas.
According to dailymirror.lk, Silva stated that the decision represented India's support for Sri Lanka in the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, which caused considerable damage throughout the country.
Silva also disclosed that India had already committed to touring Sri Lanka in late December, playing two T20 Internationals solely to collect funds for storm recovery. These matches, however, were unable to be organized due to logistical difficulties and a lack of a broadcast partner.
“There was willingness from India to come down at the end of December to play two T20Is to raise funds, but there was simply no time to organize it, especially with no broadcaster available,” Silva said, as per dailymirror.lk.
The SLC chairman thanked India for its continuous support, noting that the additional T20Is scheduled for the August tour are likely to produce much-needed cash while maintaining a focus on relief and reconstruction activities in the afflicted areas.
India's international calendar for 2026 is already demanding. The year is divided into three key blocks: a home white-ball series against New Zealand, the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in the subcontinent, and a mid-year foreign white-ball tour of England. The rest of the schedule adheres to the ICC's Future Tours Programme, with numerous series still awaiting precise match agendas from their individual boards.
India will also complete 2026 with a home limited-overs series against Sri Lanka, consisting of three ODIs and three T20Is.
