Former Australian pacer Jason Gillespie revealed why he quit as head coach of the Pakistan Test team. He gave the reason of ‘complete humiliation’ by the PCB for quitting after holding the Pakistan Test coach position for six months between April and November 2026.

Particularly recently, PCB has never been consistent when it comes to coaches. The PCB has fired or resigned several coaches during the past two years. Former Australian pacer Jason Gillespie is one of these names.

But before Gillespie, there was former South African batsman Gary Kirsten, who coached India's World Cup-winning team in 2011 before leading South Africa to the top of the Test cricket rankings. Even the renowned coach, nevertheless, quit his job as Pakistan's white-ball coach.

Jason Gillespie joined Pakistan back in April 2024 as their red-ball coach and later also filled in the position of white-ball coach as their interim coach. However, Pakistan was clean-swept 0-2 by Bangladesh in the Test series but jumped back well to defeat England at home 2-1.

However, PCB and Gillespie remained at odds about several of his decisions, like dropping star batter Babar Azam from the Test squad, citing poor form, and instead including domestic performer Kamran Ghulam in the Pakistan XI.

Gillespie disclosed during a Q&A session on X that the main causes of his resignation from the position were his disagreement with the Pakistan Cricket Board and the firing of his senior assistant coach without giving him any warning.

He was asked by a fan on X whether he followed the Pakistan Super League, and after he replied positively, another fan questioned why he quit as Pakistan coach.  

“I was coaching the Pakistan Test side. The PCB sacked our senior assistant coach with ZERO communication with me about it—as head coach, I found this situation completely unacceptable. There were a number of other issues that left me completely humiliated,” Gillespie wrote in his reply on X.  

 “Gary (Kirsten) came up with this great idea of a connection camp. Everyone in the Pakistani cricket team basically shared their experiences in that meeting. I flew in from Australia, Gary flew in from South Africa, and Chairman Mohsin Naqvi dialed in on Zoom. He is based in Lahore, but he didn’t come, while Gary came in from Africa. We both felt that the chairman couldn’t even drive 20 minutes to come here; that was a bit unusual," Gillespie had stated earlier.
