The Bihar cricket team established a world record in List A cricket on Wednesday, kicking off the exciting Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 tournament. They achieved the record in an ongoing match against Arunachal Pradesh, being played at the JSCA Oval ground in Ranchi.
Sakibul Gani, Bihar captain, won the toss and chose to bat first. Opener Mangal Mahrour scored 33, but his partner, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, was in a destructive mood. He first added 158 runs with Mahrour for the opening wicket.
Sooryavanshi added a further 103 runs with Piyush Singh, who made 77 runs before his dismissal. He had made 190 runs in 84 balls with 16 fours and 15 sixes in his demolition job innings. But Arunachal Pradesh couldn’t breathe a sigh of relief, as further destruction was to happen.
Ayush Loharuka, on his List A debut, smashed 116 in 56 balls with 11 fours and 8 sixes, but it was captain Sakibul Gani who snatched the limelight as well. He smashed 128* in just 40 balls with 10 fours and 12 sixes to his name.
Gani, whose century came off just 32 deliveries, now has the fastest hundred in Vijay Hazare Trophy history and the fastest List A hundred by an Indian. This is also the third fastest List A century in the world, behind Jake Fraser-McGurk (29) and AB de Villiers (31).
Fastest List-A centuries (by balls):
29 balls—Jake Fraser-McGurk
31 balls—AB de Villiers
