Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and his amazing knock ensured that India started their U19 Asia Cup 2025 tournament with a win over UAE on Friday, December 12, 2025. Sooryavanshi smashed an unreal 171 in 95 balls with 9 fours and 14 sixes to his name.
Apart from Sooryavanshi, Aaron George and Vihaan Malhotra made 69 each, while Vedant Trivedi (38), Abhigyan Kundu (32* in 17 balls), and Kanish Chouhan (28 in 12 balls) helped India post 433/6 in 50 overs.
In response, UAE’s Prithvi Madhu scored 50, while Uddish Suri made 78 as they made 199/7 in 50 overs to lose by 234 runs.
Sooryavanshi also had to deal with sledging while batting. When left-arm spinner Uddish Suri was bowling to Sooryavanshi, who was batting in the nineties, the incident occurred in the 32nd over.
Standing behind the stumps, Saleh Amin attempted to undermine Sooryavanshi's self-assurance. But the 14-year-old batting star had had enough and returned it to the UAE wicketkeeper.
"Come on, boys. 90's curse. 90's curse," Amin was heard saying on the stump mic as per NDTV.
Sooryavanshi gave an agitated reply, saying, "Tere saath selfie loon?"
Later, Sooryavanshi was asked about the incident, and the batter replied, "Main Bihar se hoon. Peeth peeche jo bhi baatein hoti hain, usse mujhko farak nahi padta." (I am from Bihar. What is said behind my back does not bother me.)”
Sooryavanshi's score of 171 is now officially the second-highest by an Indian in a Youth ODI, with Ambati Rayudu at the top place with 177* against England U19 One-day match in 2002.
