India’s Women’s World Cup 2025 winning keeper-batter Richa Ghosh has been promised a cricket stadium named after her in her hometown by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This happened during Richa’s felicitation ceremony recently.

Mamata Banerjee was joined in honoring Richa Ghosh at the ceremony by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), under the leadership of President Sourav Ganguly. A gold-plated bat and ball signed by Ganguly and Indian icon Jhulan Goswami were given to Richa.

In addition, the West Bengal government recognized her service to Indian cricket by appointing her as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), giving her a gold necklace and the renowned Banga Bhushan medal.  

At the event, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced intentions to name a new cricket stadium in Darjeeling after Richa Ghosh, perhaps making it India's first full cricket stadium named after a woman cricketer.

Speaking at a felicitation event for the wicketkeeper-batsman, Banerjee stated that the state has approximately 27 acres of land in Darjeeling and has urged the local mayor to design a cricket stadium there. She offered the name "Richa Cricket Stadium" to ensure that future generations remember and are inspired by her performance.

“Richa became a world champion at just 22. On behalf of the West Bengal government, we honored her, but I want to do more. There are about 27 acres of land in Darjeeling, and I’ve asked the mayor to plan a cricket stadium there. It should be named the Richa Cricket Stadium so that people remember her performance in the future and are inspired by it,” Mamata Banerjee was quoted by India Today.

Richa was one of India's top players at the World Cup, demonstrating her ability as a forceful finisher and dependable wicketkeeper. Her 94-run knock against South Africa in the group stage, which finished at 102 for six, helped India win the match and demonstrated her maturity under duress.

She also hit a fast 34 in the final against South Africa at Navi Mumbai, helping India reach 298/7 in 50 overs.
