The Indian team, led by Dinesh Karthik, won by two runs (via DLS) on November 7 to begin their Hong Kong Sixes campaign. However, the next day proved to be humiliating for them as they lost three straight games to Nepal, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates.
Prominent figures from India included Robin Uthappa, Priyank Panchal, Abhimanyu Mithun, Stuart Binny, Shahbaz Nadeem, Bharat Chipli, and Dinesh Karthik, the captain. However, the seasoned celebrities were eliminated from the competition after failing to make an impression.
India had a shocking start to Saturday as they lost to Kuwait by 27 runs. India had little defense against Yasin Patel's assault after choosing to bowl first.
The Kuwaiti batter led his team to 106/5 in 6 overs with an undefeated 58 off just 14 balls, including five straight sixes in the penultimate over. Despite a late cameo from Abhimanyu Mithun (26 off 9), India's reply faltered early and managed only 79/6 in 5.4 overs.
A few hours later, India lost to the United Arab Emirates by four wickets. India managed a valiant 107/3 thanks to Mithun (50) and Dinesh Karthik (42), but the UAE hitters were outstanding. A comfortable chase was made possible by Khalid Shah and Saghir Khan's 42 runs in the first two overs. UAE defeated India for the second time in a row, reaching 111/2 in 5.5 overs.
However, the biggest humiliation for India came at the hands of neighbors Nepal. Nepal opted to bat first and, thanks to Sundeep Jora’s 47* in 12 balls, Rashid Khan’s 55 in 17 balls, and Lokesh Bam’s 31* in 7 balls, posted 137/0 in six overs.
Rashid Khan then also picked 3/7, as India was bundled out for 45 runs in 3 overs and lost the game by a huge 92-run margin.
India will now lock horns with Sri Lanka on Sunday.
