KL Rahul joined Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 and found a buddy in mentor Kevin Pietersen. Rahul had joined the DC setup from LSG, while it was the first time Pietersen was in IPL as a mentor.
KL Rahul had a grand time with DC, scoring 539 runs across 13 matches at an average of 53.90, also hammering one century and three half-centuries as well. Rahul has a calm demeanor even when he is not on the field, but when Kevin Pietersen enters the picture, the plot takes a humorous turn.
Speaking on the 2 Sloggers YouTube show, Rahul described how his wife, star Athiya Shetty, had approached him after seeing some of his banter footage with Pietersen on the Delhi Capitals' social media channels.
“Our banter is different. He is a great sport. He gives it to you also. There was this video, and there were two-three times where I said something and DC posted it on Instagram. So, my wife was telling me, ‘Why are you being so mean? He is such a sweet guy,” Rahul said on the 2 Sloggers YouTube show.
Rahul said that what fans saw online was only a fraction of the ongoing back-and-forth he had with the former England captain.
“I said, ‘Half the things that he does to me and tells me, that doesn’t come out.’ This is three times that I have given out of the 100 times he is after my life,” Rahul revealed.
Rahul went on to say that while touring England earlier this year, he made a light-hearted complaint to Pietersen and his wife, Jessica, over dinner.
“I complained to his wife when we were in the UK. They invited me for dinner and I told her, ‘Tell your husband to go easy on me. He is very rude to me,” he said, laughing.
After criticizing Rahul's cautious approach in T20s, Pietersen later commended the Indian batsman for his aggressive and game-winning efforts throughout the IPL 2025 season.
