Pakistan registered a comprehensive 93-run victory over South Africa in the first game of the two-Test series at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Wednesday (October 15).
After the match, the players of two teams engaged in customary handshakes, prompting on-air commentators, Ramiz Raja and Aamer Sohail, to drag India into the discussion by revisiting the Asia Cup 2025 controversy.
During the continental event in the UAE last month, the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian side refrained from shaking hands with their Pakistani counterparts as the games were played amidst heightened tensions between two nations following the Pahalgam terror attack and retaliatory Operation Sindoor earlier this year.
The arch-rivals faced each other thrice in the Asia Cup and India emerged victorious on all occasions, including the title clash. In all three meetings, the Men in Blue refused to shake hands and exchange post-match pleasantries with the Pakistan players.
Following the Lahore Test, Ramiz and Sohail got triggered after seeing the Pakistani and Proteas cricketers shaking hands.
Aamer Sohail: “Good to see both teams shaking hands. It's getting out of fashion these days.”
Ramiz Raja: “It's getting out of hand.”
Ramiz further added: "It's a great tradition. And well, cricket is about tradition, being gentlemanly, about being fair. It's important for South Africa to be sane."
With this victory, Pakistan secured a 1-0 lead in the two-Test series. The second Test is slated to be held in Rawalpindi from October 20-24.
