The iconic Ashes 2025-26 series involving Australia and England is scheduled to get underway on November 21 in Perth.
With nearly a month remaining for the marquee series, the mind games and banter have already started between the former Aussie and English players.
Recently, ex-Australia opener David Warner predicted 4-0 or 3-1 win for Australia in the five-Test series, saying that England only play for a moral victory.
Days after Warner’s remarks, England’s legendary pacer Stuart Broad fires shots, calling the Pat Cummins-led hosts of the 2025-26 Ashes the ‘worst Australian team since 2010’.
Broad added that it wasn’t just his opinion, but ‘a fact’, while also claiming that Ben Stokes’ visitors were the ‘best English team since 2010’.
“You wouldn’t be outlandish in thinking – it’s actually not an opinion, it’s a fact – it’s probably the worst Australian team since 2010 when England last won, and it’s the best English team since 2010. So those things match up to the fact it’s going to be a brilliant Ashes series," Broad said on BBC Sounds.
Broad was part of the England team that last won in Australia in 2010-2011. However, they haven’t won a single Test down under since, suffering 5-0, 4-0 and 4-0 defeats in three visits.
“Australia have been so consistent for a long period of time that you just knew who was going to open the batting, who was going to bat where, what bowlers there were – and they don’t have that," Broad stated.
“It’s very much a similar situation to 2010-2011 when England went and won there. The fact of the matter is Australia generally have to be bad to lose in Australia and England have to be very good. England have a great chance of being very good and Australia have a decent chance of being bad. I don’t think anyone could argue that it’s their weakest team since 2010… it’s just a fact," he further remarked.
