11 dead in stampede-like situation outside Chinnaswamy Stadium during RCB’s IPL title win celebrations

Stampede-like situation outside Chinnaswamy Stadium | XAt least 11 people have been killed while several are believed to be injured as fans gathered outside the iconic Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday (June 4) to celebrate RCB’s maiden IPL title win.

According to multiple reports, injured persons have been admitted to the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital.

Thousands had assembled at Chinnaswamy stadium since early evening in expectation of celebrating with the RCB squad that was expected to turn up at the venue with the trophy. 

However, it turned deadly with stampede-like situation claiming mutiple lives and leaving a lot of people critically injured.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that the crowd was "uncontrollable" but refused to confirm the number of casualties or those injured in the stampede.

"I think this is not a controllable crowd. I apologise to all the people of Bengaluru and Karnataka, we wanted to take a procession, but the crowd is uncontrollable. We had arranged (security measures) for a crowd of 5,000. But we can't use lathis on a young vibrant crowd," Shivakumar said while speaking to news reporters.

The RCB contingent arrived at the HAL Airport on Wednesday afternoon and headed to the Vidhana Soudha in their team bus to meet Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The Rajat Patidar-led side was received by state's Deputy Chief Minister at the airport.

Visuals online showed police shifting injured and unconscious people to a nearby hospital. The exit and entry gates have been closed at Cubbon Park metro station, which is near Chinnaswamy Stadium.

In the IPL 2025 Final, RCB defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium to end their 18-year long wait for the elusive title win.

Asked to bat first, RCB posted 190/9 on the board. While Virat Kohli was the top scorer with 35-ball 43, the likes of Rajat Patidar (26 off 16), Liam Livingstone (25 off 15) and Jitesh Sharma (24 off 10) made valuable contributions with the bat.

Defending the total, Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2-38 in 4 overs) and Krunal Pandya (2-17 in 4 overs) bowled magical spells to stop PBKS at 184/7 in 20 overs.
