Siddharth Mallya, son of ex-RCB owner Vijay Mallya, broke down in tears as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally lifted their first-ever IPL trophy in 2025. The Mallya family had owned the RCB franchise for more than a decade before Vijay Mallya fled to London after being accused of defrauding several Indian banks.
The cricketing world — including the Mallya family — rejoiced at the end of the team’s long-standing title drought. RCB had often been mocked for failing to win despite having star-studded squads over the years. Shortly after the dramatic final, Siddharth Mallya shared a heartfelt video on Instagram.
“Eighteen long, long years… I don’t even know what to say,” Siddharth said in an emotional, tearful voice in a video on Instagram.
Though no longer officially part of the franchise, Siddharth has remained closely connected to RCB. In the early years, he served as a director and was actively involved in the team’s branding and fan outreach. He also led digital initiatives that helped grow RCB’s identity.
United Spirits, then under Vijay Mallya’s control, was RCB’s original owner. Vijay Mallya — now a fugitive in the UK and wanted in India for financial fraud — also reacted to RCB’s historic win on social media.
“RCB are IPL Champions finally after 18 years. Superb campaign right through the 2025 tournament. A well-balanced team Playing Bold with outstanding coaching and support staff. Many congratulations! Ee sala cup namde!!” he posted on X.
