Following his game-winning innings against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025), Shreyas Iyer, captain of the Punjab Kings (PBKS), was spotted yelling at Shashank Singh.
Iyer led his team home by chasing down 204 in 19 overs with a stunning innings of 87* (41), hitting five fours and eight sixes. With 48 runs and an additional 80-odd runs with Iyer, Nehal Wadhera performed his task flawlessly.
After the game, Iyer was spotted yelling at Shashank Singh as the players shook hands. A video that went viral shows Shashank approaching Iyer. But he was scolded by the PBKS captain, who mouthed a few angry words.
Perhaps Shreyas' outrage stemmed from the way Shashank was dismissed throughout the game.
Shashank was run out for 2 (3) in the 17th over of PBKS' chase, which needed 35 runs to win from 20 balls. Shashank's innings was cut off at mid-off by a direct smash from Hardik Pandya.
Replays revealed that the hitter was running casually to finish the single and only picked up speed when he noticed Pandya rapidly reaching for the ball. Shashank was caught short of his crease, though, so it was too late.
Here is the video:
In IPL history, PBKS became the first side to successfully chase a score of 200 or more against the Mumbai Indians. They only made it to the IPL final twice in their history, thanks to the remarkable achievement; their latest participation was in 2014.
The summit match between PBKS and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is set for Tuesday, June 3 at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium.
