The Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2025 was played on June 1 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI). Shreyas Iyer of PBKS won the toss and chose to bowl first. Then the match was delayed due to severe rain, but no overs were lost.
Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav both made 44, while Jonny Bairstow’s 38 and Naman Dhir’s 37 propelled MI to 203/6 in 20 overs. Azmatullah Omarzai picked 2up wickets for PBKS.
Prabhsimran Singh got out early for 6, and Priyansh Arya made 20 runs. Josh Inglis gave the impetus with 38 in 21 balls. But the match-winning partnership came between Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera.
Wadhera made 48 in 29 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes, adding 84 runs with Iyer in 47 balls, setting up the game for the PBKS. Shreyas Iyer then took the PBKS side home, as he hammered 8 sixes and 5 fours in his 41-ball 87* knock. Three of those sixes came in an over against Reece Tople, and then he hit three sixes in an over again, to Ashwani Kumar, to end the match for PBKS.
PBKS made 207/5, won by 5 wickets in hand and one over to spare. Ashwani Kumar went for 55 runs in his 4 overs for 2 wickets.
PBKS will now face RCB in the final of the IPL 2025 at the same venue in Ahmedabad on June 3.
The cricket fraternity was all praises for PBKS and its captain, Shreyas Iyer for his superlative, match-winning knock. They shared their reactions on social media.
