The Eliminator match of the IPL 2025 saw Gujarat Titans (GT) taking on Mumbai Indians (MI) on May 30, 2025, at the New Chandigarh Stadium. MI captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bat first.
And like RCB the other day, MI began hammering GT bowlers. Jonny Bairstow, on his MI debut, smashed 47 in 22 balls with 3 sixes and 4 fours. Suryakumar Yadav made 33 with 3 sixes and 1 four.
It was Rohit Sharma, who held one end and made a sublime 81 in 50 balls with 9 fours and 4 sixes to his name. It seemed like when Rohit fell with MI on 186 in the 17th over, the team would make 200 odd.
However, Tilak Varma (25 with 3 sixes) and Hardik Pandya with 22* in 9 balls with 3 sixes took MI to 228/5 in 20 overs. Prasidh Krishna and Sai Kishore picked up two wickets each.
In response, Shubman Gill was out LBW to Trent Boult in the first over itself. But Sai Sudharsan kept runs flowing from one end, and he was joined by debutant Kusal Mendis. Mendis had huge boots of Jos Buttler to fill and he did well, scoring 20 in 10 balls and looked dangerous, but was out hit wicket.
But Sai Sudharsan kept one end busy and got out for 80 in 49 balls with 10 fours and 1 six. He added 84 runs for the third wicket with Washington Sundar, who made 48 in 25 balls. But once MI managed these two wickets, it was game over for GT.
GT finished on 208/6 in 20 overs and MI won the game by 20 runs. MI will next play Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 2 on June 1 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The winner of this match will face RCB in the IPL 2025 final on June 3 at the same venue.
The cricket fraternity lauded MI’s brilliant batting and bowling as they moved a step closer to playing in the final.
