In the IPL 2025 Qualifier 1, Punjab Kings (PBKS) played Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on May 29, 2025. The Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, was the venue for the game.
After winning the toss, RCB captain Rajat Patidar decided to bowl first. Josh Hazlewood returned to the starting lineup for RCB, and Marco Jansen was replaced by Azmatullah Omarzai for PBKS.
The RCB bowlers stunned PBKS, who were hoping for a strong start, as they continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Only three people reached double figures: Prabhsimran Singh (18), Azmatullah Omarzai (18), and Marcus Stoinis (26).
Suyash Sharma and Josh Hazlewood both claimed three wickets for the RCB, while Yash Dayal claimed two.
In response, Phil Salt hammered 56* in 27 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes. Despite RCB losing Virat Kohli (12) and Mayank Agarwal (19), Salt took RCB past the finish line in 10 overs with captain Patidar on 15* as RCB won by 8 wickets.
RCB will now face the winner of Qualifier 2 on June 3 in the final in Ahmedabad. This is RCB’s 4th time in the IPL final after 20009, 2011, and 2016. PBKS will now play Qualifier 2, where they will face the winner of the Eliminator between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI), which will be played on May 30, in Chandigarh.
The cricket fraternity was all praises for the RCB team for an amazing show with both the ball and the bat. They also congratulated them on qualifying for the final of the IPL 2025.
