Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)’s full-time skipper Rajat Patidar is again not leading the team in their high-stake match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday (May 27).
At the toss, stand-in captain Jitesh Sharma mentioned that Patidar would be the team’s Impact Player. This seemed to be because of his finger injury in the right hand, which kept him out of the fielding innings during the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as well.
“We will field first. Looks like a good wicket, we’ll fancy to chase. Rajat Patidar is our impact player. Looking to win and make it into the top-2. Tim David misses out, Liam comes in, so does Thushara, he replaces Ngidi who left the team," Jitesh said at the toss.
However, interestingly, Patidar’s name featured in the team’s official playing XI sheet. The broadcasters also showed him in the XI, but he didn’t come out to the field.
This suggests that the RCB team personnel made a big blunder in the official sheet. Later, it was revealed that Bengaluru-based franchise was allowed to make correction in the sheet.
In the updated sheet, leg-spinner Suyash Sharma’s name was included by cutting Rajat Patidar’s name.
Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar suggested on commentary that LSG could have rejected the correction and asked RCB to play with the initially mentioned XI. This could have been terrible for the visitors as they’d have had to not only field a half-fit Patidar but also played with one less bowler in the first innings.
