Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant has failed to live up to the expectations in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

The wicketkeeper-batter, who was signed for a record sum of INR 27 crore in the mega auction, has aggregated only 135 runs from 11 innings at an average of 12.27 and a strike rate of 100, including one half-century.

Pant's struggles have had a direct impact on LSG's performance this season as they have failed to win games where their top order has not clicked.

On Monday (May 19), Pant scored 7 off 6 balls in LSG’s six-wicket defeat against SRH at Ekana Cricket Stadium. That loss was final nail in the coffin as the Super Giants were knocked out of the IPL 2025 playoffs race.

After the game, LSG all-rounder Mitchell Marsh reflected on Rishabh Pant’s dismal show, saying that the southpaw would be the first one to admit that he didn’t have a great IPL season.

“He would be the first one to say that he hasn’t had a season that he would have liked, but I know for myself personally that that’s the way cricket goes sometimes," Marsh told reporters in the post-match presser.

Marsh hoped that Pant will turn a corner in the remaining two league matches for LSG even though it would be inconsequential.

“We know that he’s a fantastic player, highly skilled and highly talented, so he will be back, but yeah, hopefully the last two games."

Asked about the positives for the season, Mitchell Marsh said that the balance sheet could be assessed after the end of the last league fixture.

“I think the time for reflection is probably after the season and for me personally just focus on trying to contribute to winning the next two games for our team and for our franchise. Like I said, the IPL is a beast of a tournament and the margins are really small.

“We lost a couple of close games throughout the season that now have come back to bite us, but yeah, it’s all about finishing off the season as strong as we possibly can now."
