The 61st match of the IPL 2025 saw Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Lucknow on May 19, 2025. While SRH have been eliminated from the race for playoffs, LSG remain in contention.
SRH captain Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bowl first. LSG openers posted 115 runs in 10.3 overs as Mitchell Marsh scored 65 in 39 balls, while Aiden Markram made 61 in 38 balls. Nicholas Pooran was the next best scorer with 45 runs as LSG posted 205/7 in 20 overs.
Much was expected of captain Rishabh Pant, who came out to bat at no.3. However, in the crucial do-or-die match in Lucknow, the wicketkeeper batter was dismissed for just seven runs.
He appeared a little hurried, remained in the middle for only six balls, and then smashed it straight to Eshan Malinga, who made a difficult return catch to send the left-handed batsman back into the pavilion.
Pant has scored 128 runs in 12 matches at an underwhelming strike rate of 99.22, as the wicketkeeper batter has been facing scrutiny.
Sanjiv Goenka was looking at the proceeding from stadium balcony and was very miffed to see his INR 27 crores investment failing this badly with the bat. He was so angered after Rishabh Pant got out, that he went back into the box.
