Yashasvi Jaiswal wreaked havoc on Arshdeep Singh to start Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) chase with a bang, smacking 22 runs off the first over — the most ever conceded by a Punjab Kings (PBKS) bowler in the opening over of an IPL innings.
The record-breaking over saw Arshdeep eclipse Glenn Maxwell’s 20-run horror against RCB in 2014, all smashed by Chris Gayle.
It was the most expensive opening over in this year's IPL as the left-arm quick endured a nightmare. Jaiswal started off by pulling a short ball over midwicket for a boundary. After a dot on the second delivery, he cleared mid-off for another boundary. The fourth ball saw Jaiswal shuffle across for a cheeky scoop that looped over the keeper’s head.
The carnage continued with a wristy six flicked off Jaiswal’s pads over square leg, before a thick outside edge flew past short third for a fourth boundary in the over.
Chasing 220 to win, Jaiswal and 14-year-old prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi combined to help RR record their best ever powerplay score in IPL history. The left-handed duo put on 76 for the opening wicket while the Royals racked up 89/1 in the first six overs.
However, their effort went in vain as RR’s innings was restricted to 209/7 in 20 overs. While his team was on the winning side, Arshdeep ended up conceding 60 runs in his four overs.
After the game, Arshdeep Singh shared a video with Yashasvi Jaiswal on Instagram, appreciating the southpaw for explosive batting.
“Sometime WIN, sometime learn & WIN,” Arshdeep wrote in the caption, thereby taking a cheeky dig at Pakistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan’s infamous "win or learn" remark.

RR have already been knocked out of the playoffs race. As far as PBKS are concerned, the win in Jaipur strengthened their position on the 10-team points table.
