The IPL 2025 is set to resume from May 17th, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on May 12, 2025. The ongoing 18th edition of the IPL was suspended on May 9th due to the military standoff between India and Pakistan.
The 58th match of the IPL 2025 between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala was called off midway as a blackout was ordered in the area after Pathankot was being bombarded by Pakistani military with drones.
Later, the decision to pause IPL 18 for one week was taken as the franchises were instructed to allow their players to go back to their respective homes. The majority of the foreign players have already left for their home countries, and several have reportedly ruled out returning for the finish of the tournament.
Meanwhile, BCCI has announced that May 17 is when the IPL 2025 will resume. As per the IPL 2025 revised schedule, the remaining matches of the league will be held across Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Also, the venues for playoffs will be announced on a later date.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is pleased to announce the resumption of the IPL 2025. After extensive consultations with government and security agencies, and with all the key stakeholders, the Board has decided to proceed with the remainder of the season.
A total of 17 matches will be played across 6 venues, starting May 17, 2025, and culminating in the final on June 3, 2025. The revised schedule includes two double-headers, which will be played on two Sundays,” the IPL statement read.
The playoffs are scheduled as follows: Qualifier 1 – May 29, Eliminator – May 30, Qualifier 2 – June 1, Final – June 3. Venue details for the playoff matches will be announced at a later stage.
