The final of the IPL 2025 could be shifted out of Kolkata. The iconic Eden Gardens was due to host the summit clash after their respective franchise -- Kolkata Knight Riders – clinched the title last season.
According to a PTI report, the BCCI officials are looking to work on a solution for all stakeholders and ensure that the tournament resumes at the earliest.
Amidst escalating India-Pakistan tensions at the border, the BCCI on Friday (May 9) suspended the cash-rich league with immediate effect for one week.
“As of now, there is no decision on IPL. BCCI officials are working out on the solutions. BCCI secretary, IPL Chairman are in talks with franchises and everyone, so very soon we will know about the decision, efforts are being made to resume the tournament early," said BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla.
A total of 57 matches had been completed in the 18th edition of IPL. There are 12 league matches still remaining, followed by the four play-off fixtures.
The report claims while there won’t be any change regarding the hosts for Qualifier 1 and Eliminators, Kolkata could miss out on staging the final due to weather concerns.
“As of now, there is no change in venues for the play-off stage, but it seems rain can affect the final in Kolkata. In that case, the final could be played in Ahmedabad," said the source, as quoted by PTI.
The source also mentioned that the franchises have been asked to assemble all the players with the tournament set to resume on May 16 or 17 in Lucknow. The schedule for the 16 remaining fixtures is expected to be announced tomorrow.
Both Delhi and Dharamsala won’t be able to host more games as the equipment has already been removed from the respective venues.
“All the teams have been asked to call back their players, the tournament will resume either on May 16 or 17 in Lucknow. The final schedule will be shared tomorrow (Monday)," a source was quoted as saying.
“Most likely, the matches will be held at four venues and Delhi and Dharamsala won’t get to host more matches. All the equipment has already been removed from these venues," added the source.
The BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia, also shared that they are working together with the respective stakeholders to come to a final decision regarding the resumption of the league.
“In the next few days, we will begin consultations with the franchises, broadcasters, sponsors and the state associations slated to host the remaining matches before crystallising into a decision on the league’s resumption," Saikia remarked.
“Given the importance of IPL at this juncture, it will also be prudent and necessary to take the nod of the Government of India before finalising the time for its restart."
