On Friday (May 9), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended IPL 2025 for a week amid escalating India-Pakistan border tensions.

Subsequently, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) contacted the BCCI and offered to host the tournament, popular English magazine The Cricketer reported.

After announcing its decision to suspend the cash-rich league for a week, the Indian board also arranged chartered flights for all the overseas players to reach home safely.

Earlier on Friday, former England skipper Michael Vaughan also came up with the same suggestion. Vaughan took to X and stated that it might be in India's benefit to host the IPL in the UK, considering they play England in a five-match Test series from June 20.

Before the suspension, the match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was abruptly halted midway in Dharamsala on Thursday (May 8).

The BCCI, prioritizing safety, coordinated with Indian Railways and arranged a special train to evacuate players, support staff members, commentators and broadcast crew from the region.

The new schedule for IPL 2025 will be announced after security assessment and stakeholder consultation. India’s Test tour of England, which runs through early August, could be followed by the rescheduled IPL.

The BCCI may consider using the Asia Cup window to play the remaining 16 IPL 2025 matches, given that the continental tournament remains uncertain in light of the current geopolitical situation.
