
Mayank Agarwal has been named as injury replacement by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in place of Devdutt Padikkal for the rest of IPL 2025. This announcement was made on May 7, 2025.
Devdutt Padikkal will miss the rest of the 2025 Indian Premier League due to a hamstring ailment caused a blow to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). With a net run rate that is second only to the Gujarat Titans, the team has acted quickly to get Mayank Agarwal as a replacement for the remainder of the season.
RCB posted a heartfelt message for Padikkal on social media. This season, Padikkal, who had mediocre IPL results in previous seasons, was a revelation for RCB, hitting two half-centuries while batting at No. 3. He easily achieved his highest IPL season total of 247 runs in 10 games this season at a strike rate of 150.61.
"Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have signed Mayank Agarwal as an injury replacement for Devdutt Padikkal for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Devdutt Padikkal, who played 10 matches for RCB this season and scored 247 runs with the help of two half-centuries, sustained an injury to his right hamstring.
Mayank Agarwal has played 127 IPL matches so far, scoring 2661 runs. He has 1 IPL hundred and 13 fifties against his name. He joins RCB for INR 1 Crore,” the IPL statement read.
Agarwal’s first IPL squad was RCB, and he has since played for several other teams. He failed to sell at the auction late last year after scoring just 64 runs in four IPL 2024 games during his most recent spell with Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Mayank was welcomed by the RCB franchise as well with a special message. It said: “After 12 long years, ????????’???? ???????????????? where he belongs. Happy #HomeComing, Mayank. 12th Man Army will be on top of the moon hearing this, and they’ll all be right behind you.”
RCB has 16 points from 8 wins in 11 games and needs only one more win from their next three games to qualify for the playoffs. They will face LSG next in Lucknow on May 9.
