Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are having a tough time in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). With just two wins from 10 outings, the five-time champions have already been knocked out of the playoff race.
CSK’s early exit has become a topic of debate, with much of the spotlight on Ravichandran Ashwin, for whom the franchise splashed Rs 9.75 crore at the mega auction last November.
The veteran off-spinner has participated in seven matches this season so far, managing to claim only five wickets.
Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has slammed the CSK management for not utilising Ashwin's experience, particularly in their fixture against Punjab Kings at Chepauk on Wednesday (April 30).
“Chennai didn’t select the team based on conditions. Had Noor Ahmad, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja played together against Punjab Kings, Chennai Super Kings could have won the match. You didn’t pay Rs 10 crore for Ashwin to bench him. I don’t know why he is not playing, but it seems he might have fought with someone,” Harbhajan said on JioHotstar.
He also mentioned that Ashwin wasn't the only underperformer, but unlike others, he was left out of the playing XI.
“He is not the only one who hasn’t performed. Others are still playing despite their ordinary performances, but Ashwin is out of the team. He should have played against Punjab, as the ball was spinning,” he added.
CSK will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (CSK) in their next match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday (May 3).
