Mumbai Indians (MI) registered an emphatic 54-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 45 of the IPL 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday (April 27).

Impactful fifties from Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav, powered Mumbai Indians (MI) to 215/7 in 20 overs after LSG won the toss and opted to bowl first.

In reply, LSG’s innings folded for 161 in 20 overs. MI’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc on the visiting batting line-up as he returned with the figures of 4/22 in four overs. The likes of Trent Boult (3-20 in 4 overs), Will Jacks (2-18 in 2 overs) and Corbin Bosch (1-26 in 4 overs) also bowled brilliantly.

It was Mumbai’s fifth consecutive win of the season, and the five-time champions now hold third spot in the team standings with 12 points under their belt from 10 games.

After the game, former India spinner Piyush Chawla attributed MI’s success to a number of match winners in their playing XI.

“If you see the number of match winners Mumbai Indians have in their squad, you start right from the beginning till number 11. Ryan Rickelton – the knock that he played today – we know Rohit Sharma, what he has done in the last two games. Today, Bumrah with the ball, Will Jacks came in, and he provided those two crucial wickets," Chawla said on JioHotstar.

Chawla feels that things are falling into place for MI, who lost four of their first five matches in the ongoing IPL season.

“So, I think things are falling in place; whatever Hardik is doing, it’s happening for the team, and that’s what this team is all about. You have so many match winners in that playing XI. Jasprit Bumrah came in as an impact player and what impact he has left on the game! So that’s why this team is on a roll, and when Mumbai Indians are on a roll, every other team should be scared of them," he added.

Mumbai Indians will next face Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on May 1.
